Privacy Policy

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your name, your email address or any payment details, because nothing here needs them. There is no account system, so there is no profile to build.

We run no advertising networks and no session recorders. Nothing on these pages tries to fingerprint your browser, and nothing follows you to other sites.

The site itself stores one thing on your device: whether you chose the light or the dark theme. It is kept in your browser's local storage, it is never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it. The analytics cookies described below are set by Google, not by us.

What happens to the link you paste

When you press the button, the address you pasted is sent to our server, which passes it to the conversion service that looks the video up and builds the file. That is the only reason it is sent anywhere, and it is not written to a database or kept once the request is finished.

The finished file is not served from this site. Your browser is sent to the conversion service's own download address to fetch it, which means that service sees the request in the ordinary way any website sees a visitor.

On a page with JavaScript, the address travels inside the request rather than in the page URL, so it does not appear in our server logs. Without JavaScript the converter falls back to a waiting page that carries the job address in the URL, and URLs are recorded in ordinary web-server logs.

Server logs

Like any web server, ours records the requests it receives: the IP address they came from, the time, the page asked for and the browser's own description of itself. These are kept for a short period, used to keep the service running and to deal with abuse, and are not combined with anything else to identify you.

Analytics, and how to refuse it

We use Google Analytics to count visits — which pages are read, roughly where in the world readers are, and whether a conversion worked. It tells us which parts of the site are worth keeping. It is not used for advertising, and the tag on this site tells Google not to use it for advertising either.

It starts with the page. There is no banner asking first: the tag loads on every visit, so Google sets cookies on your device and receives your IP address, the pages you look at, and the usual technical facts about your browser. Google acts as our processor for that, and its own privacy policy governs what it does with it.

You can refuse it from your side, and it is worth saying how rather than pretending the choice is not there. Any content blocker stops the tag loading; Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Analytics everywhere; and blocking cookies for this site has the same effect. None of that stops the converter working — the tool does not depend on it.

With JavaScript turned off, nothing loads at all: the converter still works through the plain form, and no analytics runs.

What we never do

We do not sell, rent or trade information about the people who use this site, and there is no advertising business here for anyone to buy into. Nothing is shared with third parties beyond performing the conversion you asked for and, if you allowed it, counting the visit.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them. As there is no account and no profile, there is nothing held about any individual user, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest way to tell.
